Our stay at Somewhere_Joshuatree

Somewhere_Joshuatree Air BNB

As the end of the year approaches, we always find ourselves saying “we should plan something for new years eve this year” and although we always have the intention to get something planned ahead of time… welp it never happens! This year we were playing our plans by ear, Collin was a bit under the weather the week prior and then I caught his cold a few days prior to New Years Eve. I focused on sleep and eating healthy and luckily recovered very quickly. We were thinking about places that we could staycation and started searching for Air BNB’s. Collin found somewhere_Joshuatree and you know I’m a sucker for well designed Air BNB’s so how could we resist!

Since I worked on New Years Eve, we planned a nice dinner with Collin’s family in Laguna Beach and came back home and watched the outrageous rain and wind storm that was taking place outside. For those who don’t live in Southern California, it’s been a rainy & stormy start to the new year.

On new years day, we slept in and had a nice quiet morning. The weather was changing by the minute, from 100% rain to sun, we had no idea what the weather was going to be like out in Joshua Tree but I continued to pray for at least a beautiful sunset and sun the following day when we planned to go to Joshua Tree National Park. We started the drive out to the desert and man, was it a stormy drive! As we got closer and closer to Joshua Tree, the clouds seemed to disappear. We stopped at a grocery store in town and bought some steaks and potatoes to cook up for dinner as well as some bacon, eggs and fruit to enjoy in the morning. Just as we arrived to Somewhere_Joshuatree, the sun was shining through the clouds creating the most beautiful sunset, exactly what I had been praying for.

We got settled into the Air BNB and immediately jumped into the jacuzzi to unwind and enjoy the sunset. It was a very surreal experience as it began to get dark, the Air BNB was off on it’s own in the desert, the closest homes were a ways away and it got so dark and so quiet so quickly. We soon realized the appeal of the all glass walls in the kitchen and living space as we had a view of all of the lights from the nearby towns nested upon the hills, it was absolutely beautiful! We cooked up the steaks and potatoes and cozied up by the fireplace before getting to bed.

We were both surprised to wake up to a sunny day with not a cloud in sight! How did we get SO lucky?! We stepped outside and enjoyed the crisp chilly air and the view, then started cooking up some breakfast to fuel up for our hike. Of course, no day is complete without caffeine so en route to the national park, we stopped at Joshua Tree Coffee Company and grabbed some Nitro Cold Brews, which we highly recommend!

We drove around Joshua Tree National Park a bit to find a hiking spot. Side note, the only other time we had been to Joshua Tree National Park was for our engagement photos and we’d been dying to get back out there and actually enjoy a day in the park! We found a hike and off we went, it was perfectly sunny yet super chilly which made for great hiking weather. We hiked and wandered for a few hours and then headed back to the car. As our staycation ended, we were grateful for a quick escape from reality to start the new year. Our number one goal with this staycation was to relax, unwind and spend time out in nature. 2022 was a busy year for us with the wedding (and wedding planning) and we couldn’t have asked for a better start to the new year. We came home feeling relaxed, calm, clear minded and ready to get started on our goals for 2023.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Joshua Tree, we highly recommend Somewhere_Joshuatree, we stayed at the Jackrabbit Wash location, however, they have a few different locations (all aesthetically on-point) throughout Joshua Tree. The Jackrabbit Wash location was perfect for hosting friends or for celebrating a birthday party. We could totally see ourselves back out there in the summer enjoying the pool and the sun!
